Hi! My name is Jake, and I am currently studying for an MSc in Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, from where I graduated last Summer with a First Class BA in Neuroscience. I attended Westminster School, performing well in my public exams, and since leaving I have gained over three years of private tutoring experience, covering a range of ages from pre-11+ to university applications, though I have focussed primarily on GCSE and A-level Biology and Chemistry tuition to date.
I have always received positive feedback on my tuition style, and am always keen to adapt to the needs of the individual student. I am conscious that everyone learns in a different way, so I have a range of strategies and resources at my disposal and will switch up my approach if I think it would help the student to understand. Giving students a good understanding of the material, rather than just feeding them the correct answers, has always been my goal; I believe that you can only really excel in a subject if you have a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts, and my students tell me that they understand things in a more robust way after our sessions together.
I have supervised a number of students students through significant increases in their expected grades, and given them the confidence to perform to a high level in the subject I have tutored. This has included helping two students improve their expected A-level grade by two grades, and helping younger children get into their first-choice secondary schools!
I also have experience helping applicants through the university application process, reviewing personal statements and helping with preparation for the BMAT, and would be keen to help any student get where they want to go, to the best of my ability.
